Towns forming the eastern boundary are Taung, Vryburg, Schweizer Reineke, Stella and Setlagole. The main town in the region, Vryburg, halfway between Kimberley and Mmabatho-Mafikeng, is home to the country’s largest beef producers.
For those who love nature, the entire Bophirima region has plenty to offer. Much of this vast savannah bushland, home to lion, buffalo, rhino and various antelope, has been bought up and converted into private game reserves.
Due to the nature of the terrain, the area has become popular with those seeking adventure and 4x4 routes.
The Molopo Game Reserve covers 23,000ha of game country in the top western edge of the province on the border with Botswana. This reserve in the remote Kalahari area, with typical semi-arid and savannah vegetation, holds many animals normally found in these desert conditions.
In the south of Bophirima, the small town of Taung became famous in 1924 with the discovery of a fossilised skull of a child. The area is now called The Taung Heritage Site.
