ACCOMMODATION IN UPINGTON
With its modern airport, and situated at the junction of the N10 and N14, Upington is a major transport hub. It’s the closest urban centre to Augrabies, and it’s a good springboard for the Orange River Wine Route. The Kalahari Oranje Museum, which showcases some of the history of the area, has a monument to the donkey in its yard. Another interesting statue in the town is the camel and rider in front of the police station commemorating the camel-mounted officers that used to patrol the desert. The avenue of date palms on Die Eiland is over a kilometre longs and is reputed to be the longest in the southern hemisphere.
