ACCOMMODATION IN KURUMAN
The Eye of Kuruman produces 20 million litres of crystal clear fresh water every day so it was hardly surprising that the Scottish missionary, Robert Moffat, chose Kuruman as the site of his mission station. Actually, the mission is a few kilometres from the town, but the crystal clear water is led there by a long furrow. The lovely, cool, church he built still stands, as does the orchard and the peach tree under which David Livingstone proposed to Moffat’s daughter, Mary. Moffat translated the bible into Setswana, and printed it on a hand press, which is still working. The Eye is a pretty, cool, shady, relaxing place with a huge natural pond.
