ACCOMMODATION IN KIMBERLEY
The city of Kimberley was, almost literally, built on the backs of the more than 50,000 men who dug out the Big Hole of Kimberley, extracting 2,722 kilograms of diamonds from 22.5 million tons of ore. The town that built up around the mine is the biggest in the Northern Cape, and also the main transport hub. It’s worth exploring for its wealth of museums, art galleries and monuments all relating either to diamonds, the South African War or one of the many interesting historical characters who lived and worked in the town. Kimberley is on the N12, and is a convenient stopover between Gauteng and Cape Town.
