ACCOMMODATION IN DOUGLAS
This small town on the confluence of the Vaal and the Orange – South Africa’s two biggest rivers – is, ironically, still a bit of a backwater. It’s a pleasant town serving a large agricultural hinterland, which is not surprising considering all the water around. There is a wine cellar worth visiting, and some fabulous rock engravings close by. The fishing is good, and the rivers offer a number of pleasant little spots to relax, swim, picnic or stay for a few days.
