ACCOMMODATION IN KLERKSDORP
This industrial and mining centre retains some of its agricultural character, and is the site of the second largest grain cooperative in the world. You can do a mine tour or visit the old mining shafts and Boer War graffiti at Goudkoppie. The Klerksdorp Museum is well worth a visit, if only to see the mysterious spheres that were found by local miners. They evidently rotate all on their own, which could be attributed to their high iron concentration. Or – of course – they could have been left here millennia ago by passing UFOs. The latter explanation is favoured by people who indulge in the mampoer and witblits tasting on offer at the museum.
