ACCOMMODATION IN KAAPSCHEHOOP
While technically part of the Lowveld Legogote Route, Kaapsehoop is quite high lying, situated as it is on the edge of the escarpment. It’s an area of beautiful rolling montane grassland, interspersed with pine plantations and fascining rock formations. It is a twitcher’s paradise as it is one place where it is relatively easy to see the endangered blue swallow, amongst many other high altitude birds. A large herd of feral horses roams the mountains here in small groups, mysteriously appearing out of the mist and then disappearing into the distance again. There is a great day or overnight horse trail based here, and they often “join up” with the wild ones.
