The largest city in Limpopo Province, Polokwane is very much in the national consciousness so the old name has virtually been forgotten. And it’s all because of the 2007 ANC conference, so the name now refers almost more to the event than to the town. But there is more to it than that. It’s one of the FIFA Host Cities for the 2010 World Cup and the new state of the Art Peter Mokaba Stadium is designed to symbolise a baobab tree. The small Polokwane Game Reserve right on the edge of town is a great place to get away from it all and see some animals close up.
