Geography The town of Magaliesburg is situated on the R24 just at the border of Gauteng and North West. Surrounding Magaliesburg, on the North West side of the border are the towns of Hekpoort and Doornkloof. ScienceThe scenic, wooded Magaliesberg Mountain Range is about 120km long and is home to many Cape vultures. The highest peak, despite being 1,780m above sea level, is only about 300m above terra firma. Almost the entire range is a nature reserve and visitors may be lucky enough to spot hyena or even leopard! Hiking, mountain biking, kloofing and horse-riding are popular pastimes, as are game-viewing and fishing.EntertainmentA number of establishments and places of interest are part of the 'Magalies Meander' which offers the city-dweller the opportunity of enjoying the area's treasures and warm country hospitality. Many artisans have made this area their home and are on the Meander. This means that visitors are able visit their studios to view or purchase their artworks.
