GeographyThe village of Burgersfort lies in the valley of the Spekboom River north of Lydenburg. History Burgersfort was named after the hexagonal fort built here during the 1876-77 war against the Pedi and was named after President Burgers of the Transvaal. Minerals such as iron, andalusite and vanadium have been found in the area, and today the village produces lucerne, tobacco and citrus fruit crops.
