Geography

Caledonspoort is one of the border posts between South Africa and Lesotho. The Eastern Free State Highlands town is situated about 8km from Fouriesburg, and is known as Caledonspoort, because it is here where the great and little Caledon Rivers meet.

Arts and Culture

Tourists interested in the historical and cultural legacy of the area will find the San rock paintings that have been found in the surrounding hills and mountains known as the Rooiberge, to be of great interest. The nearby town of Clarens is well known for its resident artists and wonderful art galleries.

Entertainment

Visitors can enjoy excellent fly-fishing opportunities, or take up the challenge of a 4x4 trail. Other motorised activities include off-road motorcycling and quad biking. For the traveller who brought clubs, there are three golf courses to choose from. The nearby Katse Dam and the Lesotho Highlands offer the tourist a great day out, with spectacular mountain scenery. Winter often brings heavy snowfalls to the mountains of the area, transforming them into a winter wonderland. This is one of the few places on the African continent where you can go skiing.
