The village was laid out in 1854 and he named it after the then Governor of the Cape, Sir George Grey. Greyton is also close to the oldest mission station in South Africa, which was founded in 1738 by the Moravian Church. "Genadendal" or the "village of grace" boasts lovely historical buildings and is definitely worth a visit.
