Highly Recommended Self-Catering Cottages/Chalets
Lowestoffe Country Lodge is set against the backdrop of the magnificent Elandsberg Mountains with expansive grasslands, rocky ridges and a gently meandering river. This pristine setting, in the amphitheatre of the Hogsback area, offers the ideal opportunity for family holidays and weekend getaways.
The vast open spaces and diverse topography lends itself to outdoor activities, and among the many we specialize in fly fishing (Trout, Bass and Yellow fish), horse trail rides, mountain biking and hiking. The picturesque Klipplaat River traverses the farm for 18 km providing numerous scenic spots to enjoy a picnic or deep water pools from which to cast a line for Yellow fish. There are also a number of fully stocked trout dams.
Each of the three houses is located on a separate farm thus providing a private yet safe holiday experience. The gardens around the houses have large lawns and the views are all spectacular. The decor is tasteful and simple, providing a “home away from home” experience. As the nights can be rather chilly, especially in autumn and winter, there is the added luxury of a duck down duvet and an electric blanket on each bed.
Trout Lodge
This attractive, up-market lodge was built in 1990 and is located on Lowestoffe Farm. It overlooks the main trout dam and is therefore a favourite amongst those keen on fly fishing. It is also within walking distance of the stables from which horse trail rides are conducted.
Rockford Lodge
The lodge is situated on Rockford Farm which was acquired in July 2002 and is about 10km from Hogsback. The setting is magnificent with a poplar forest on the one side and beautiful views directly in front of the house looking towards the well-known Klipplaat River. The opportunity to explore this river frontage beckons, whether to have a picnic or to find a deep, silent pool from which to cast a line for yellow fish.
Woodhouselea
The lodge is situated on the Woodhouselea Farm about 12km outside of the village of Hogsback. It is a charming, old farmhouse built in the early 1900s and nestled at the base of the Elandsberg Mountain with breathtaking views in all directions. The wide passage, wooden floors, spacious rooms and huge main bedroom epitomise old style farm living at its best.
