Sangweni Lodge was the first bed & breakfast in Alice established in 1998 with a passion to put the small famous university town on national and international tourist maps when it realized that academics who come from overseas countries and within South Africa to conduct research in the African National Congress archives housed at the university, had to stay elsewhere because there was no accommodation in Alice.

Alice is a small very very important town in the outskirts of the Eastern Cape. It was started by the British Colonians in the eighteen centuries and during Queen Victoria's visit to the area in1847, the town is named after her daughter Alice.

The town of Alice is the mother to the university of Fort Hare which was the first black university in the whole of Africa where all the African leaders graduated starting from the past president Nelson Mandela.

Sangweni Lodge was started on humble beginings from pension funds with just 2 rooms accommodating 4 guests sharing. It has grown magnificently over the years through the grace of god and today prides itself of 14 very comfortable units which are 8 uniquely furnished en suite chalets, 2 of which are self-catering and also 6 rooms.

Winner of AA Travel Guides accommodation awards 4 years running up to 2011.

Child Policy
Children welcome. Children up to the age of 6 years are accommodated free of charge and 1/2 price from 7 - 12 years.

Cancellation Policy
Accommodation is secured / cancelled by payment of 50% of the total coast.
Cancellations made 5 days before the date of arrival is free.
